The concept of this piece is inspired by a funny juxtaposition of material that occurred in the NYT review of Lee Seigels new book, Against the Machine. At the end of the article, there was a series of Google advertisements that served as an amazing index of the content covered in the article. The irony was almost overwhelming. Although I haven't read the book, the article painted Seigel's opinion in a fairly pessimistic light, and the ads at the bottom were executed in such non-deliberate subversion, that I thought I had to share with Mr. Seigel himself.

I was inspired by [Self]Portrait of American Debt to send Mr. Seigel 50 pieces of physical spam to his office at the New Republic, each envelope containing a print out of the screen shot I got from the "original" article with "lol" superimposed.

I hardly think that Mr. Seigel would want to share in this joke with me, but I think that highlighting Google's inadvertent subversion of Seigel's criticism of our world's network culture is too nice to share on my own.

The piece's eventual product will not only be video documentation of the delivery of the 50 pieces of mail to the post office (or if I ever get a chance, hand delivered to the New Republic offices in NYC), but also an example of the screenshot mail and an addressed envelope.
